The Journey from Sadir to Bharatanatyam by Viveka Chauhan

Once a temple dance, the domain of the Devadasis, Bharatanatyam is now performed professionally by urban women. It has become the symbol of a particular history, in the process erasing the very aspects that contributed to its birth and development.

Viveka Chauhan is an independent filmmaker based in Delhi. Trained in Filmmaking at the Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts and Communication, New Delhi, her documentary, Rup Rupantar, on the folk art form of Bahurupias, won at the India International Youth Film Festival.
