Tales from Napa by Lalit Vachani

The remarkable story of Napa, a little village that resisted the forces of fundamentalism during the 2002 Gujarat riots. The Film investigates the role played by local Hindus and Muslims and their social institutions in maintaining peace, in the context of a history of economic interdependence, communal harmony and syncretism.

Lalit Vachani is the Director of based Wide Eye Film. His documentary films include The Academy, The Starmaker and The Salt Stories, with its specific focus on retracing the path of Gandhi’s salt march in the context of contemporary Gujarat. His Films have received support from the Soros and Sundance Documentary Foundations, the Jan Vrijman Fund and the India Foundation for the Arts. He has taught courses on various topics related to film and documentary.
